Muhammad Ayyub ibn Muhammad Yusuf was born in Mecca in 1952 to a family of Burmese descent who had migrated to Saudi Arabia. He memorized the Quran at a very young age and became a student of the finest Quranic scholars in Medina. He earned a Doctorate in Quranic Interpretation (Tafsir) from the Islamic University of Madinah. Sheikh Ayyub's legacy is permanently cemented in Islamic history by two major milestones. First, he was appointed as an Imam of Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque) in 1990, where his majestic, echoing voice became the defining sound of Taraweeh prayers in Medina for a generation. Second, when the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran decided to produce their first official, state-sanctioned audio recording of the Quran, they selected Sheikh Muhammad Ayyub to be the reciter. His recitation style is heavily influenced by the traditional "Hijazi" melodic scales native to Western Saudi Arabia—it is loud, confident, yet incredibly peaceful and unhurried. His recordings are widely considered among the best tools for students learning correct pronunciation and proper Tajweed. His legendary complete Quran recording is available for streaming and high-quality download on this platform.
