About This Surah

Surah Aal Imran (The Family of Imran) is the third chapter of the Quran with 200 verses. It was revealed largely in response to the Battle of Uhud and addresses the Christian delegation from Najran, providing a detailed theological discussion on the nature of Jesus (peace be upon him).

Key Themes

The unity of Allah (Tawhid), the story of Mary and the miraculous birth of Jesus, the Battle of Badr and Uhud and their lessons, the concept of patience in adversity, and the call to the People of the Book.

Virtues & Significance

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Recite the two bright ones, Al-Baqarah and Aal Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them." (Sahih Muslim).

Context of Revelation

Revealed in Madinah, primarily after the Battle of Uhud (3 AH). Its opening 83 verses were revealed in response to a delegation of 60 Christians from Najran who came to debate the Prophet ﷺ on the nature of Jesus.
